Born in Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, I started my working life as an apprentice signwriter, illustrating hotel & pub signs, goods vehicles, theatre curtains and using 22ct gold on polished board & glass. During this time I also attended Leeds College of Art.
I served with the army in Hamburg as a storeman and during this time I trained in Theatre management & as a cinema projectionist. After being demobbed, I returned to signwriting, starting my own company along with my wife, and we built up good regular custom with companies like Nestlé and Dunlop.
On retirement we moved to Ireland to see our grandchildren grow up and then, sadly, after 7 years with Alzheimer’s my wife passed away, so I now paint again to keep my mind occupied and reflect on our many happy times together.
Over the past couple of years I have been doing demonstrations in acrylic paintings in various venues. This includes scenery and horses which are among my favourite subjects. I have also been teaching in Nursing homes which is a new and interesting dimension to my art
