Elaine Gavin

My name is Elaine Gavin and I’m a native of Ballynacally. In my ‘day job’ I am a primary school teacher in Lissycasey N.S.. and I hope in some way I can inspire every child I teach to find their own talent and see the world through artist’s eyes. There is such colour and beauty in the world if we can only see it.
‘Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up’ Pablo Picasso. . . .

Life is a funny thing. As a child I was constantly drawing but as I grew up I spent less and less time being an artist. For the last ten years I have painted very little. However inspiration hit me last year and I finally started painting for myself. Inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Ireland and those to which I travelled, I finally began to see myself as an artist again. It’s never too late to pick up the paintbrushes.

What a year in art 2017 was for me!! ….from finally putting a piece of my own artwork on my wall with pride, making my tv debut on ‘Painting the Nation’ and having my first art exhibition in aid of Pieta House. I have loved painting the cutest dogs for my dog portrait gifts. I have had the pleasure of meeting lots of local artists and art lovers at two local Christmas markets and there’s a great feeling knowing that my Christmas cards have been sent all over the world. It has been some year and I’m already planning more adventures for 2018 with Inis artists!
