BIO

I am a native of Cork, but living in Clare for the past 30 years. As a former graphic designer, I have spent much of my career honing the art of visual communication. Yet, it is through my recent pursuit of a Fine Art degree in Painting that I have truly begun to explore the deeper language of art—one that speaks through emotion, texture, and place.
The local landscape, particularly the lakes, has become my primary source of inspiration. Their stillness, their fluidity, and their ability to shift between moods—from calm to tempestuous—have captivated my imagination. I am drawn to the way light reflects and distorts on water’s surface, creating a dialogue between clarity and abstraction. This tension, between what is seen and what is felt, guides my work.
In my paintings, I aim to capture the essence of these landscapes, often focusing on the quiet moments that are often overlooked: the interplay of light on the water, the shifting colours of the sky, and the subtle changes in texture that occur as the seasons evolve. Through layering, texture, and the manipulation of mark-making, I seek to create works that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in the natural world around them.
Moving from graphic design to fine art has allowed me to reconnect with the tactile nature of materials and the freedom of expression. Where once I was concerned with structure and precision, I now embrace the unpredictability and fluidity of painting. My work is about capturing the essence of a moment, an experience, and a place that is constantly in flux.
Ultimately, I hope my work speaks to the deep connection we all share with nature, a connection that is as complex and ever-changing as the landscapes that inspire me.
